Since we are heading into a new year, I wanted to share a few tools I use that really increase my productivity.
- Gmail – Gmail has to be the tool that makes me the most productive. Now I am not the biggest fan of the Gmail user interface. I really prefer Outlook for intensive email handling. For a tool though that allows me to access my email from anywhere. Gmail is without a peer. I really cool thing about your Gmail account is that you can open, read and answer mail from other accounts in Gmail. Let's say you have a hotmail and a Comcast email address you can direct both to Gmail read them and answer back with the hotmail, Comcast or Gmail address. It is a great tool.
- Google Calendar Sync – This is cool little tool that you can use to sync your Google calendar with your Outlook calendar. I use Outlook in the office. On the road I use Google calendar on my Droid phone. It really was a pain to have to put an entry in both. Google Calendar Sync runs in the background and syncs entries from one to both.
Email Me – On my Droid, I use Email Me a lot. If an idea comes to me, just open the app make a note to myself and then email it so I can work it later. It also integrates with my web browers so if I find an interesting link while surfing on my phone, I use open email me and send the link to my email so I can further investigate at home or the office.
Roboform – After my Special Forces days, my first job was in computer security. I know that passwords are important. The more complicated the better and don’t have the same one for each account. They are though really hard to manage. Roboform takes care of that for you. It will mange all of your logon information everywhere, your phone, all of your computers. I have recently begun using the bookmark feature so that I have the same bookmarks everywhere too!
Windows Live Writer – Windows Live Writer is a piece of the Windows Live Essentials suite. It is a great little program that you can write all of your blog posts on to as many different blogs you want. It will allow you to share posts across blogs, write and submit them for posting later, and basically all you need to do for you posting to your blog(s). I especially like the ability to edit, see what it is going to look like and edit the HTML even if you are not super tech savvy. I use it for all of my blog posts.
There they are, a quick little list of tools that enable me to Get Er Done quickly and easily. Try out at least one or two. Remember, you don’t have to get it perfect, just get it started.
