Over on Lifehack.org, I have guest posted a selection of my book Get Er Done – The Green Beret Guide to Productivity. The post is about backward planning and how it can help you get er done.
In the business world I see a lot of projects worked from the beginning forward. That means the project manager just sits down and guessitmates how long each phase of the project will take and then sets a completion date for the project.
That flat out doesn’t work in the military when you have a time on target. In the civilian world, it often times hurts the business because it is not focused on the need of the business to be done on a particular date to meet a product launch or some other driver.
It applies to your personal life too. People depend on you to be certain places at certain times. Using the excuse, “it took as long as it took,” doesn’t go over well with children who need to be picked up, dates who expect to meet you at a certain time.
Check out the post over at Lifehack.org and see how you can make your planning easier and more successful.
