A lot of people ask me why I talk about the importance of being an entrepreneur and having at least a side business.
It's really about freedom.
Let me take a step back for a second.
You know that I was in the Special Forces (Green Berets). The base mission of the Green Berets is Unconventional Warfare. Put simply, it is going to another land, teaching and helping the people of the land to overcome an oppressive government – gaining their freedom. There is a lot that goes into all this, but you can put it pretty simply – helping others help themselves.
The act of helping others achieve freedom actually gives yourself freedom.
I know, I know. It sounds pretty hokey. I'm also not talking about whole feel good reciprocity thing either.
Okay, here's what I mean.
It's not the time of your grandparents or even your parents. Back then it was go to high school, get a job in the local factory, stay there for forty years, get a pension. That was it. Even twenty years ago, It was almost the same. Just stick college in there and get a office job.
These days things are different. Most skilled labor jobs are gone. Decent well paying jobs straight out of college are hard to come by.
On top of all this, corporate loyalty is at an all time low. There is a good chance you will go through a downsizing/layoff at least once in your life.
It makes you feel like you don't have a lot of choices.
IF you don't have options you are going to feel oppressed, under the gun. I see it over and over again.
The motto of the Green Berets is De Oppresso Liber – to free the oppressed.
I like the idea of everyone having some sort of business. It can be something full time or something you run from your patio an hour or so a day.
I'm not talking about some sort of multi-level marketing thing. I am talking about helping people solve their problems over the Internet. Helping others helps you.
These problems can be the basic questions people always have – money, health, relationship/personal development. They can also be other problems how to build a chicken coop, how to catch more fish, how to cook cookies better, how to hit a golf ball better, etc, etc.
You know something about something. I am willing to bet there is someone who wants to know what you know.
I am not saying that you can or should start proclaiming yourself an expert if you aren't. I can teach you how to get to expert status quicker than you normally thing it could take.
Now I have been doing this for awhile. There are tons of methods and manners that people advertise and teach.
I see a lot of people get started and quickly get overwhelmed. I've been able to take my Get ER Done methods and simplify this whole “Unconventional Business” method to allow them to do what I'm doing.
I'm not a guru who “teaches” people to do what he or she has never done. I only teach stuff that has worked for me.
I want to make sure you understand, I may have been a Green Beret but that doesn't mean you can't do what I am doing now.
It just makes it easier for me to teach you.
